Playstation Firmware 3.0 Announced – Nothing Special…

Today Sony announced they will be releasing a new firmware with the upcoming release of the PS3 Slim. This will officially be firmware 3.0 however the feature list is undeserving of anything above 2.x. Check out the details and video of firmware 3.0 here.

Feature List

“What’s New” – displays new stuff going on…
Status Indicator – displays you, your friends, messages and news…
Friends List – displaying of friends is new and improved…
PlayStation Store Shortcuts – shortcuts to coughing up money…
Personalization – new animated themes… new avatars! (no not like xbox avatars, we’re talking about small still pictures)
Trophies – new ways to display your trophies… taking xbox achievements to the next level of custom display…

New PSP in time for Christmas

Word on the street is the New PSP will be out by Christmas. Just in time to cash in on the holiday splurge. The New PSP will supposedly have the following feature set:

Sliding Screen
Touchscreen Capabilities
Full PSP Gamepad and Face Buttons
Dual Thumb Sticks

If the new PSP looks anything like the image above I’m definitely in for one! Maybe two!

PSP Slim : Who Cares?

Sony announces new Slim PSP. It’s like when the DS Lite was released except a year later. It’s been done… Sony might gain a little revenue with this one but that just means the stacks of Original PSPs that didn’t sell will never leave those storage shelves. There hasn’t been a game on the PSP to make me want to buy one yet. Sure the hardware is way more powerful than the DS but the DS still makes me feel warm and fuzzy when I’m playing Super Princess Peach. Which is a darn good game by the way. It’s like when Yoshi’s Island came out on SNES. Same old thing, brand new abilities.

Even VGcats burns the psp

Yep its true… Nobody wants one. And those who do probably want to disown it. Other PSP owners have hacked systems and will never buy a game. Spells trouble for Sony doesn’t it.
