Today at E3 Nintendo unveiled the Nintendo 3DS. It now has two cameras on the lid for 3D picture taking. On the interior it features a 3.5″ 3D screen (no glasses necessary) and a new analog stick. Notice the new placement of the start, select buttons and a new home button. The power button has also been moved to the inside to make room for a 3D slider on the side. This slider will control the depth of the 3D screen effect, and when in camera mode control the depth of the 3D picture.

Now because you’re viewing the 3D screen without glasses the 3D effect seems to just hover right above the screen. Also the distance and angle you are viewing the screen screen from will alter the effectiveness of the screen. Regardless of these nuisances, I hear its pretty amazing. The world, not just the gaming industry, will be clawing to catch up to Nintendo’s new technology. The ability to take 3D pictures alone could probably create an outburst of 3D point and shoot cameras. 3D televisions requiring 3D glasses have just become obsolete within a few short months of their inception.

Glasses who needs them! Lookout PSP your stock just plummeted! Oh that’s right, the PSP Go already did that…

Below is a full list of upcoming 3DS games in the works.

The funny part is I think I remember playing Pokemon black and white on the original Gameboy. On second thought, that was actually grey and olive.

Nintendo Starts Rumors about 3DS

Leave it to Nintendo to start rumors about their own products. The Nintendo 3DS would be the 5th generation in the ever growing DS lineup (DS, DS Lite, DSi, DSi XL). 3D is all the rage in recent months and Nintendo is clawing to stay ahead of the iPhone/iPod Touch. The release of the DSi camera and DSiWare are obvious jabs at the Apple lineup. While I think it’s wrong to release new hardware every time some hint of competition shows up you can’t ignore the numbers Nintendo has posted with its DS products.

Nintendo has confirmed the 3DS will be officially revealed at this years E3. There are rumors that the 3DS will also feature a 3D joystick and finally some good old force feedback.

Square Enix will look into Final Fantasy VII Remake

There they go again, trying to pull us back in with Final Fantasy VII rumors. After a week full of comments by Final Fantasy XIII creators hinting at wanting to remake Final Fantasy VII, Square Enix’s CEO says “We’ll explore the possibility – whether or not we’re going to do it, if we’re going to do it, and the platform”.

I would love to see Final Fantasy VII remade as long as it doesn’t hinder the creation of Final Fantasy XIV. In addition, I think a lot of people are still waiting for a Final Fantasy VI remake for the DS. However, the reception of a Final Fantasy VII remake would be too huge to pass up and would likely push aside any development of the aforementioned titles.

The DSi LL is the larger brother of the recently launched DSi and is marketed toward an older crowd with it’s larger screens and stylus. Nintendo felt the larger screens would pique the interest of those who like large buttons on their telephones and television remotes. While the large screens make it less compact on the go it appeals to me since I normally spend the bulk of my DS time at home anyway. Maybe I’m getting older as well…

As for colors, the DSi LL will come in red wine, dark brown and white. The Japanese DSi LL will also be preloaded with a brain training type game and likely come with a higher price tag for its larger screens.

Nintendo announced the Japanese launch date will be Nov. 21st. It will most likely be released in Q1 of 2010 in the states as the DSi XL.

It’s obvious that the Okamiden developers know who their target DS market is. It’s easier to sell a cute pup like this to Nintendogs owners than it is to sell the original snarling wolf. Regardless of what the new Okami looks like I’m sure most Okamiden buyers will be hardcore gamers who have played the original Okami. It still astounds me how few people have actually experienced the original Okami. Luckily the rerelease on the Nintendo Wii allowed Capcom to generate a larger fan base and more sales with the same game. Sadly original art style will probably be lacking in the new DS version.

I got a chance to check out the new Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Wars this weekend, and I have to say it lived up to all the hype. GTA Chinatown Wars is already rated as one of the highest Nintendo DS games of all time on the all encompassing Metacritic. From the start of the game you’ll notice a level of polish that is rare in the DS library of games. We all know how muddled the DS library has gotten. The level of polish coupled with the stylistic art style of the comic like cut-scenes the visuals set up the game perfectly. The throwback top-down view of the game works well and still upholds many of the features of the new GTA releases. It’s like playing a real sequel to GTA 2.

The games controls are easy to pick up and the touch screen mini games are a welcome edition. Maybe until the first time you’re running away from the cops and hi-jack a car only to find out you actually have to hot-wire first. The touch screen is also used for your GPS system, emails and even throwing grenades. I only wish the DS touch screen was as accurate as the iPhone using your fingers. Pulling out the stylus every time is kind of a drag.

A new feature that sets this game apart from the next-gen counterparts is the major influence of drug trade. At anytime you may approach a dealer and buy anything from weed to coke and make a profit selling it to other dealers depending on the market value. I found this was a quick way to build up some funds early in the game. Another thing I wasn’t expecting was having the entire map available from the beginning of the game. You may also purchase new safe-houses anywhere on the map if you have the sufficient funds.

I’ve only played the first 10 missions but luckily they’ve been creative enough to keep me wanting more. GTA Chinatown Wars is a welcome addition to the GTA series and the fact that you can deal drugs and run from the cops on the go makes it that much better.

I had a chance to check Super Dodgeball Brawlers for the DS this week and I have to say bringing back this game was a great idea. Even though they didn’t do anything fancy with touch controls the game is still addictive. Tournament mode will keep you playing for a good amount of hours but the real deal here is the multiplayer capabilities. Beaming your friends with super attacks will keep you entertained possibly longer than Mario Kart.

This is a great game to have between those long stretches of The World Ends With You and Apollo Justice.

Now that my girlfriend is back in the states I get to have my DS back. While she was gone I had been meaning to try this game out and finally I got to playing it last night.

The game is actually really well done. I mean the DS and the Wii have become really huge haystacks of junk that the needles are really hard to find. But that’s what happens when you create a console that is geared towards “non-gamers”. Once the intro started the game had me. The art style is just excellent. While the whole game is a little reminiscent of Kingdom Hearts, it still feels very fresh.

I thought the game-play would be a button mashing fighter but it turns out the game is more similar to a music game. What you see on the screen is fighting but your actual actions require you to use timely buttons and stylus strokes.

So far the main character, Neku, is a jerk but I’m sure he’ll come around. I guess the introverted main character never gets old.

I’ve only just begun but this game is already living up to it’s 9.0 IGN rating.
