i haven't actually done it yet, but i read that there's a backup tool on the ps3. if i can, i'll probably throw everything onto a usb flash (then probably throw in onto one of my external HDs). i'm not sure how big the backup will be. i guess i can stand to lose all the trailers i dl'ed b/c that'll probably be 10 GB easy.

Yea the mandatory installs are kind of a pain. It's like a buzz kill every time you throw in a new game. What method are you using to backup your HD?

yo, i hope your ps3 hasn't gotten too much play (or i'm not sure if you've done this already) but you should already get a new hard drive. if you haven't already done so, you should try google it and a few sites will instruct you on how to do so - it's surprisingly simple. plus, i'm pretty sure it won't void the warranty since it has a slot to take it out anyway.

for the initial ps3s, 40-60 GB is crazy small, especially for HD stuff. GTAIV alone takes 3.5 GB to save. all the "cutting down of load times" eats away at your hard drive.

i'm about to beef mine up to 500GB.
