I just realized new Playstation 3s are not backwards compatible

I’m an Xbox 360 guy looking to eventually get a PS3, but today I just realized that they no longer make PS3s that are backwards compatible with PS2 games. The last PS3 able to play PS2 games was the Playstation 3 bundled with Metal Gear Solid 4. So it looks like I’ll be stuck looking for a used PS3 or just buy both. I’m kind of glad I read up on this before buying one.

Sony is likely looking to sell PS2 games on PSN so discontinuing backwards compatibility is just a business strategy. Nickels and dimes…

    That’s funny because I just bought one for $300. Used 60gb PS3 backwards compatible (model:CECHA01) on ebay. Should be here next week! Now I gotta cut back on spending when I get back from NJ.
