Gears of War 2: Combustible Map Pack
I got a chance to sit down and play with the Gears of War 2 Combustible Map Pack that was released earlier this week. Overall I think they’re a nice edition to the maps that shipped with the game. Again Epic trying to make maps where the environment plays a factor. On Flood the emulsion will gradually rise until only a small area of battle ground is left. Walking in the emulsion will slowly burn you to death. As for the other maps they are pretty basic but the obvious similarity is the high ground. Taking the high ground in Fuel Station and Gold Rush can give a team a good angle for shooting down on their opponents but leave them vulnerable to Motar fire.
The only problem I see so far is that the maps aren’t in the normal rotation of multiplayer modes. You have to specifically choose to play the Combustible Map Pack. I’m guessing this is because most people haven’t gotten the new maps yet but I’m hoping they will be in the rotation in the future. Also I think it’s a little bit of a rip off to charge 800 points for 3 maps when the other map pack comes with 4 maps.
