IGN gives Call of Duty 4 the Xbox 360 Game of the Year Award

Honestly I think they deserved it. It’s the best game I own right now and when you compare it to the other shooters of 2007 the only one that comes close is Halo 3. Halo 3 broke records with their sales but Call of Duty 4 delivered the full package of campaign and an addictive multiplayer system. Call of Duty’s only flop was only allowing one player on Xbox Live at a time. At least Halo 3 allows four players on a single machine, which makes it a viable small party solution.

Sure shooters aren’t the most innovative genre right now but with the stiff competition its surprising that one could come out so far on top. Developing a good campaign takes time and good story telling while creating a multiplayer game requires patience and listening to fans. The leveling up system that is built into the Call of Duty 4 multiplayer system is more than addicting in a World of Warcraft type fashion. It wouldn’t surprise me if more developers adopted this idea for multiplayer features.

I probably have more to say but since I’m at work I’ll end this now.
