Flickr Yahoo pipes vs Ben Ward Photoset Feed

I used to use yahoo pipes to broadcast my flickr photosets but I started to notice the reliability of yahoo pipes didn’t hold up. I use my flickr photoset RSS to broadcast to my personal page but 1 out of 5 times the RSS would return nothing. You can find the tutorial here.

So began the search for another solution. Actually the best solution would be for flickr to give us unique RSS feeds for our photosets but that’s another argument. So I ended up finding another solution in Ben Ward’s RSS Feeds of Flickr Photosets. The bad news is that its running on his end somewhere and if his server ever goes down I won’t get anything parse able. The good news is that so far the service has been consistent and reliable.

One gripe I have with it is the invalid html that is being generated. The img tag isn’t being closed so I had to add that in myself.

*EDIT* As Ben said himself, its valid HTML and invalid XHTML. Which means invalid me ha ha… ok don’t laugh at that. Thanks for the comment.

  1. Ben Ward says:

Hi, glad you’re finding the set feeds useful. I’m planning to tidy up the source and release it as a reference to people at some point, and I’m looking at getting the feature available on some more reliable servers than my own, too. Either or both of those may help your reservations about reliability.

Also, one correction: The feed description returned *is* valid HTML, but it’s HTML by design rather than XHTML — which is where the self-closing IMG tag is needed.

    Regards,

    Ben
